I’m a New York Times bestselling author and wellness leader, who’s been thriving with stage IV cancer for more than 20 years.
Over these past two decades, I’ve learned some big lessons about how to take care of myself, live life to the fullest and make an impact. It’s been my honor to share these insights with millions of people around the world.
It was Valentine’s Day in 2003. I was in my early thirties and had just received some life-shattering news: I was diagnosed with a rare and incurable (yet thankfully slow-growing) stage IV cancer.
Up till then, my life probably looked a lot like yours. A career gal, racing through busy days, crashing onto my sofa at night with some fast food and a pint of ice cream. Lots of unfulfilled dreams that I figured I’d get to one day. Plus about 1,000 pounds of stress and unresolved emotional baggage that was taking a toll on my body and spirit.
Sure there were some warning signs—mysterious pains, skin issues, stomach problems and yearly bouts of bronchitis. Nothing major, right? But it wasn’t until those warning signs turned into a full on wake-up call that I began to pay attention.
The WTF moment of my diagnosis sparked a deep desire in me to stop hitting snooze on my health (and my dreams) and start participating in my well-being. Though I couldn’t be cured, I could still thrive—I could feel better, love harder and lead a more joyful life. I just needed to figure out how.
I dove into the worlds of conventional medicine and holistic healing practices. (It’s not either-or, it's both-and. I deeply believe that the best healthcare approach is integrative.)
I braved Whole Paycheck Market and turned the produce aisle into my first pharmacy.
I learned how to cook something besides toast, eventually going fully plant-based (and even wrote some tasty cookbooks to help you try it out). I adore animals so this felt like a win-win for me!
I began moving my body in joyful ways (no more punishing workouts) and finally getting some Zzzz’s.
And I shared everything I learned in my books, lectures and programs—including a course for cancer thrivers like me.
I realized that wellness isn’t just about what you’re eating—it’s also about addressing what’s eating you.
I ended a decades-long toxic relationship with stress (and the chronic inflammation it caused). Writing and meditation became my favorite ways to come back home to myself.
I learned that we can’t amputate any of our emotions and expect to be whole. So I stopped stuffing my grief and pain—and started inviting them to be heard.
I learned how to listen to my brilliant inner guide. And I started speaking up for myself: setting boundaries, respecting my needs, and saying that beautiful word, “No!”
I realized that a loving community expedites healing, joy is medicine, and having fun must be taken very seriously.
Since then, I’ve made it my life’s mission to pass on the lessons and help people like you build vibrant health and fulfilling lives.

I’ve been called a “force of nature” by O Magazine and was named a “new role model” by The New York Times. I’ve had the privilege of sharing my message and tools for wellbeing on shows like Good Morning America, The Today Show, OWN and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
As a motivational speaker, I’ve lectured at hospitals, conferences around the world and corporations such as Whole Foods Market and Harvard University. I've also had the privilege to give a talk as part of Oprah’s SuperSoul 100, recognizing the most influential thought-leaders whose vision and life’s work are bringing a higher level of consciousness to the world.
But my most treasured accomplishment is being able to help people take back their health and feel more empowered. Two decades after my life fell apart, it’s more connected and purposeful than ever. And although I still have cancer, I am healthy, and I run a successful mission-driven business that serves my community and makes me feel profoundly grateful each and every day.
If I can pull that off, just imagine what YOU can do.
If you’re ready to create your own vibrant life, the first thing I’d suggest you do is get support. We aren’t meant to do wellness alone. That’s exactly why I created Inner Circle Wellness—and I’d like to personally invite you to join us.
