The Power of Focusing on Your Light

There is a personal story I go back to whenever I feel lost or uncertain about what to do next, especially in my career.

Back as a struggling actor, my managers constantly reminded me of my supposed shortcomings — not being pretty, talented or destined for success enough. I had absorbed their limiting beliefs about my potential. However, one pivotal experience showed me the power of focusing on my strengths over perceived flaws.

Against all expectations, I booked the lead role in a new Arthur Miller play. When I met Arthur during the audition, I unexplainably burst into a weird giggle-fit. As it turned out, this unplanned outburst helped me land the role! I didn’t realize it at the time, but exuberant laughter was a key part of my character’s introductory scene, capturing the spirit of Marilyn Monroe’s ghost.

This experience made me realize my managers’ baseless opinions were holding me back. By focusing on my so-called “flaws,” their low expectations became self-fulfilling. From that point on, I committed to embracing my strengths and quirks, which began to unlock even more opportunities.

Living in Radical Self-Acceptance

We revisit the 5 Pillars of Wellness from Episode 1 and go deep on optimizing your thought life (Pillar 3), with powerful affirmations to rewire limiting beliefs, visualization practices to create self-love on a cellular level, mind-body techniques for realigning with your worthiness, and insights for staying empowered through any challenges or failures.

At your core, you are an ever-evolving, awe-inspiring miracle — a complex system that’s literally keeping life happening. By intentionally redirecting your focus to the profound aspects of your whole being, you open up to a life of authenticity, vibrancy and fulfillment defined 100% by YOU. Your unique light, strengths, growth and gorgeous imperfections are all celebrated and worthy of being tenderly nurtured.
