Hi Sweet Friends,
Although I may not talk about this topic as much as I did a decade ago, it’s still a subject that’s very important to me—surviving cancer. A few years ago, I learned about Dr. Kelly Turner, Ph.D.’s book, Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds. After reading it cover to cover, I couldn’t wait to do this interview and share Kelly’s research with you all. Today, her words still ring true. Time and time again, I meet and read emails from readers who say this interview has changed their lives.
Kelly has dedicated her career to what she calls “radical remission” (although, I think her work is so universal that it should be called Radical Remission and Prevention!). The research she gathered is not only empowering to those facing a cancer diagnosis, it’s a gift to anyone who wants to lead a healthy, long life.
Watch my interview with Dr. Kelly Turner above or download it here and listen on-the-go. Note: To download the mp3 file, right click (or Ctrl+Click on a Mac) on the link and “Save Link As” to save it to your computer.
After analyzing 1,000 cases and doing over 200 direct, in-depth interviews, Dr. Turner’s biggest takeaway has been that healing is possible at any time. I want to be clear that, like me, Dr. Turner is not against Western medicine. She believes that every situation is different and that everybody needs a different healing plan tailored to their needs.
When I read Kelly’s New York Times best-selling book, Radical Remission, I couldn’t believe how much it aligned with the diet and lifestyle I’ve been writing about and practicing personally for the past decade. It’s so refreshing and encouraging to see these things deeply researched and documented by someone like Kelly. During this interview, we covered three of the nine principles outlined in her book. Keep in mind that this is not a step-by-step plan for healing cancer. Rather, Kelly’s nine principles are the common threads she discovered while researching people who had experienced radical remission.
3 (of 9!) Principles of Radical Remission
1. Radically changing your diet
Find out what to add and what to remove—I couldn’t agree more! Hint: Hello, plants!
2. Taking herbs and supplements
There’s no one-size-fits-all supplement plan but during our interview, Kelly shares the top three kinds of supplements people with radical remission commonly take. Remember, it’s important to find an integrative oncologist, integrative doctor or certified nutritionist (who has an integrative approach and has worked with cancer patients) to determine your supplement plan. Check out these resources: Institute for Functional Medicine and Society of Integrative Oncology.
3. Deepening your spiritual practice
Learn about the phenomenal power a daily spiritual practice, whether it’s a walk in nature, meditation or prayer (whatever floats your boat!), can have on your DNA. You may find that mindfulness and spiritual connection have more influence over your health than you ever could have imagined.
I really hope this interview inspired you, whether you’re a patient or someone who just wants to feel better and prevent chronic disease.
Kelly was also one of my amazing guests for the first-ever Healing Cancer World Summit. Using the results from this event, I compiled a modern-day guide for prevention and recovery to help you in your cancer journey that you can find here.
Your turn: What came up for you after listening to this interview? What were your takeaways?
Peace & radical research,
I’m living with endometriosis and every day can be filled with pain and fatigue, despite the medication I’m on to control it. These three points are exactly what my nutritionist suggests for helping my body heal and handle my condition. I can’t wait to read her book to see what else may help me thrive, rather than just make it through the day. Thank you!
Dr Kelly reminds me of taylor Swift. I just bought kindle version of Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, sure I will enjoy this book. I have previously bought Crazy Sex range. Ensure drinks can be dangerous for elderly especially them that have had stroke.
you girls are the only ones that I find that feel so happy when someone heals naturally. Most people are actually not celebrating with you if you journey this in a natural way – it always surprises me. Thank you ladies for this amazing video and the work that you do. I appreciate you sooooo much
Thank you for this inspiring interview! As a stage 4 lung cancer patient I am doing everything I can to stay alive. I was diagnosed 15 months ago and have been on chemo but have been also educating and arming myself nutritionally. Still not perfect (can’t give up my animal protein) but adding lots of nutrients, greens and supplements. So far so good!
Amazing book, really worth a read. Excellently laid out and really interesting. Really confirms everything you’re reading about it being a multifaceted approach to wellness…
Thank you! Things keep coming to me! My husband has had three strokes, has dementia and neurological problems and in June he was diagnosed with melenoma of the bone. With dietary and supplementation he is doing fairly well. The meditation is a bit more difficult as his mind does not work as it once did but we continue to follow these paths ever exploring the tings that are and could be helping!
What a beautiful person this Doctor Kelly is I so enjoyed listening to her. I shall connect to her website and read her book. Although I’m not a cancer patient I am so surrounded by friends who are and would love to help them through speaking about this lovely lady doctor.
this is beautiful and inspiring. i am healing myself with daily walks in nature and herbal juices. cancer is a lighthouse on the journey home. to understand this is to fall in love oneself and live.

Thank you for giving hope and an action plan. Odds are stacked against me as my immune system is lowered because of a kidney transplant.
Meditation is exactly what I need. I will contact a functional nutritionist as well. Thanks so much for your
Wonderful and informative
I loved watching the discussion! I am trying to set up these steps as I am newly diagnosed with cancer. Do you know of any Canadian resources to help with nutrition and supplements? I would be grateful for any guidance.
Stacey
Great work you beautiful women. Can’t wait to read your book Kelly.
My mom who is 79 has had stage 4 ovarian cancer for 4 years this Jan. They took her off the chemo rounds which gave her a decent quality of life for 4 years. She is starting to decline a good bit. What can we do at this point. I gave her you book and at 79 she just couldn’t manage all the information, so she gave it back, so I’m not sure about the green smoothies. Really what would help her the most at this point. Please advise. I would appreciate any advise. Strong religious background, daily says rosary and reads scripture but I also cannot teach her to meditate but the rosary is meditation? Anyway please advise. I cant take losing her.
Ever read the book Remarkable Recovery by Caryle Hirshberg & Marc Ian Barasch? I believe it was published in 1995.
I was diagnosed with cancer a year ago I am doing fine changing my diet and exercise, stress and sleep pattern what came up for me after listening Kelly Turner was my spiritual practice because I was just thinking about that very thing this morning on my way to work. It is the one part I am missing for me. So thank you for the reminder and for all the great info.
Healed terminal cancer 6 years ago this way!
