Empowering Guidance on Cancer Remission (Video)

read all about it

Hi Sweet Friends,

Although I may not talk about this topic as much as I did a decade ago, it’s still a subject that’s very important to me—surviving cancer. A few years ago, I learned about Dr. Kelly Turner, Ph.D.’s book, Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds. After reading it cover to cover, I couldn’t wait to do this interview and share Kelly’s research with you all. Today, her words still ring true. Time and time again, I meet and read emails from readers who say this interview has changed their lives.

Kelly has dedicated her career to what she calls “radical remission” (although, I think her work is so universal that it should be called Radical Remission and Prevention!). The research she gathered is not only empowering to those facing a cancer diagnosis, it’s a gift to anyone who wants to lead a healthy, long life.

Watch my interview with Dr. Kelly Turner above or download it here and listen on-the-go. Note: To download the mp3 file, right click (or Ctrl+Click on a Mac) on the link and “Save Link As” to save it to your computer.

After analyzing 1,000 cases and doing over 200 direct, in-depth interviews, Dr. Turner’s biggest takeaway has been that healing is possible at any time. I want to be clear that, like me, Dr. Turner is not against Western medicine. She believes that every situation is different and that everybody needs a different healing plan tailored to their needs.

When I read Kelly’s New York Times best-selling book, Radical Remission, I couldn’t believe how much it aligned with the diet and lifestyle I’ve been writing about and practicing personally for the past decade. It’s so refreshing and encouraging to see these things deeply researched and documented by someone like Kelly. During this interview, we covered three of the nine principles outlined in her book. Keep in mind that this is not a step-by-step plan for healing cancer. Rather, Kelly’s nine principles are the common threads she discovered while researching people who had experienced radical remission.

3 (of 9!) Principles of Radical Remission

1. Radically changing your diet

Find out what to add and what to remove—I couldn’t agree more! Hint: Hello, plants!

2. Taking herbs and supplements

There’s no one-size-fits-all supplement plan but during our interview, Kelly shares the top three kinds of supplements people with radical remission commonly take. Remember, it’s important to find an integrative oncologist, integrative doctor or certified nutritionist (who has an integrative approach and has worked with cancer patients) to determine your supplement plan. Check out these resources: Institute for Functional Medicine and Society of Integrative Oncology.

3. Deepening your spiritual practice

Learn about the phenomenal power a daily spiritual practice, whether it’s a walk in nature, meditation or prayer (whatever floats your boat!), can have on your DNA. You may find that mindfulness and spiritual connection have more influence over your health than you ever could have imagined.

I really hope this interview inspired you, whether you’re a patient or someone who just wants to feel better and prevent chronic disease.

Kelly was also one of my amazing guests for the first-ever Healing Cancer World Summit. Using the results from this event, I compiled a modern-day guide for prevention and recovery to help you in your cancer journey that you can find here.

Your turn: What came up for you after listening to this interview? What were your takeaways?

Peace & radical research,

Kris, interview with dr turner was enlightening, helpful and “hopeful” as I continue a cancer journey of almost 14 years!
I will visit the websites to learn more and just pulled out my copy of crazy sexy diet for a “refresher.” Most importantly thank you for calling yourself a “cancer thriver.”
A reminder that our thoughts and attitude contribute greatly to our healing and our peace of mind…Kim

First of all I love you Kris Carr, you rock and align with all my beliefs! I was dx with breast cancer in 1992 at age 36. I decided to have a bi- lateral mastectomy as I had recently lost my friend to the disease .. While she treated one side, the other had a sneaky version that would take her life. Just getting engaged I decided on a bi-lateral mastectomy to get rid of those smoking guns and have reconstruction giving me twins, not sisters! The recommendation was 6 months of chemo and 5 years of tamoxifen. I decided to go holistic with diet and lifestyle and hope for a chance to have children. I am blessed with 2 daughters, now 16 and 19! Twenty one years later I have been dx with metastasized BC to my bones. In complete shock I began an obsessive search to find my plan. First was diet, aligning with what Dr a Turner just described in your interview. I had already downloaded her book but haven’t read much yet. Next I found an amazing integrative MD who did extensive blood work to come up with my supplements plan. I am writing to you from Germany where tomorrow is my final day of a 3 week treatment. My 10 weeks of research landed me here ( way too long to detail in this already long comment!) I am geared up to go beyond the ” managing” of this disease to reversing and someday kicking its ass to the curb!
I have much to share with you and others about my journey that got me here and met amazing people from around the world who are researched and strong. The stories of success from this clinic after being sent home to hospice are inspirational and have reset me into the Can Do Mode.
Please connect with me on my email above as I have a meeting with my local cancer clinic when I return to discuss my findings about all the body, mind and spirit issues to attempt to convince them to hire an Integrative MD and work complimentary into the peaceful coexistence it deserves!
    XO S

  3. Hi Kris, I started following you earlier in the year when I was trying to help my boyfriend’s sister stay positive while dealing with her breast cancer. She unfortunately died 3 weeks ago.

Since then my older sister has been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in her stomach. There has never been any documented cancer on either my Mother’s or Father’s family until now.
Thank YOU and Dr. Kelly Turner for this wonderful video and I look forward to more good news from the both of you. Now more than ever I am listening in hopes of avoiding this result for myself. I especially appreciate the information on sugar as it is so important to understand that many of the processed (good for you products) aren’t good for us at all.

Thanks for fighting the good fight you both ROCK!

    Hi Kris & DR Kelly,
I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer just 1 hr after being told my precious Mum had only 2 weeks to live, just 6 weeks before this my Mums youngest sister (( my Godmother & my best friend,my life mentor) passed away after a 13 yr battle with breast cancer, my Mum had cervical cancer. My little niece of 13 my brother only little girl passed away 2 yrs before this from brain cancer, and my darling brother died of a broken heart just 8 months before my Mum. So for me to be given a cancer diagnoses on the day I was told mum had just 2 weeks ( she only lived for 10days and I was her carer I could not separate cancer from death untill I found you Kris, you see I went for my chemo/ radiation assessment the day after my Mums funeral back to the same hospital I took both my mum & my aunt for their treatment & follow up appointment’s & where my aunt had passed away. I am only starting to ( change my thinking to change my life) I’ve been also following hay house world summit thanks also to you Kris living in Ireland I never heard of all these wonderful people & their stories. What has REALY blown me away about Dr Kelly’s interview is the science behind meditation etc, I will be most DEFFINATELY be starting to meditate from tomorrow morning as this is amazing knowledge for my soul. I can’t thank you both enough. God bless you Kris & Kelly just a little thing I’d like to tell you is that my little 4 yr old grandson is called. Kris Kelly now that is some wonderful power of attraction at work. Don’t you think. Much love & Irish blessings to you both keep doing what your doing you are saving soooo many people’s lives. The sun is always shinning behind every cloud. :):):) Glynis

Ladies, Thanks so much for this little reminder to live healthy. On the sofa feeling sorry for myself with a dose of germs – all i’m craving is to curl up with chocolate but i’m getting up now to go make a super dooper green smoothie that will hopefully help me along my healthy way. If i add beetroot i totally get the same kick as i would from chocolate 🙂

  6. Patricia says:

Thank you Kris and Kelly. This is a truly inspirational message! Cancer is too often seen as something that cannot be cured and the “C” word puts fear into most people. This research gives hope to all of us that Cancer can be cured and that we can take proactive steps to heal ourselves.
I agree that this research can also be helpful for those who do not have Cancer. If these things that Cancer patients have done to heal have given them Radical Remissions than those things can also be used to heal other diseases.
In addition to Dietary Changes, and proper Supplements tailored to a person’s specific needs, I know that the Spiritual Component is so important. As a Meditator and someone who found my Spiritual path because of a serious Chronic illness with Environmental and Chemical Sensitivities, I know that it is my Spiritual Connection to the Higher Power, to the Light, that both leads me and gives me the strength and support to heal.
Thank you! This is truly a wonderful message of hope and inspiration that I too can heal my self and also help prevent Cancer in my own body.
    Love, Love, Love

such a great interview, thank you. Kelly is so well-spoken and smart, what a pleasure to learn from. And the things she recommends in her book would be good for folks who DON’T WANT to get cancer!

  8. Sherri Grande says:

What a phenomenal interview Kris and Kelly!! I do not have cancer, but live with adrenal fatigue and MS and am constantly tweeking my diet and lifestyle so that I can live a healthy life cancer free. Both my father and brother have/had cancer and now a cousin who has struggled with cancer for over 20 years, is literally fighting for her life. I sent this video to her in hopes that Dr. Turner’s book and both of your websites will inspire her into radical remission. You are both doing incredible work for such an incredible cause. You go girls!!

  9. Annie in Montana says:

Thank you beautiful ladies for sharing this amazing information with all of us! What a blessing to those of us who have loved ones dealing with cancer and for the rest of us who just want to live our best life possible which I think is so much easier when we feel healthy and balanced. I think a huge part of that is taking control over what we put into our mouth and loving ourselves enough to nourish ourselves both physically and spiritually. Keep up the great work and keep spreading the truth!

I just finished reading Radical Remission and it is one of the greatest books I’ve ever read, completely inspiring! Dr. Turner you are an angel, Bless you for bringing so much knowledge and hope for people who are dealing with cancer. Kriss Carr you too have been an enormous inspiration for me, Thank you for everything that you do and for the awareness that you are bringing forth on this GREAT book. I had Breast Cancer 8 years ago and did everything that the western med’s prescribed, I also did many alternative things, but not enough and not consistently as I did not know what I now know. Last September the cancer recurred, it was devastating to find out about the Bone Mets. I have made radical changes and have made great improvement over the last 8 months, I am determined daily to have my Radical Remission.

  11. Yael says:

    Really Wonderful!!
Thanks so much Kris Carr and Dr. Kelly Turner, Ph.D. for sharing the interview with us!!
I forwarded it to a friend of mine who was diagnosed with cancer recently.
I am healthy and eating vegan/gluten/soy/corn free diet regularly. 🙂

I also live in NYC, in Upper Manhattan – among many hills and trees, so I experience what Dr. Kelly Turner mentioned- its a happy transformation of body &soul each time I walk up/down the gorgeous hills of Fort Tryon Park!! and also when i practice daily Qi-gong and meditation.

    I loved the interview!!
    And I love your work!!

    thanks you!!

  12. Sheila says:

wow! I love hearing this study and having research to back it up! After being diagnosed I was amazed at the few questions I was asked in the name of Research about my lifestyle. I also felt the doctors were not interested in any dialogue relating to integrative methods of healing even diet…I realize they are surgeons and they love to cut cut cut. I would like to know if tapping has same benefits as meditation I seem to have trouble with quieting my being (up til now) and tapping does work for me Ive had amazing shifts since incorporating it. What are your thoughts? Are they two totally different things cellularly….Thanks for all you do for all! xxSheila

  13. Trish Wood says:

Loved, loved, loved this interview. I sincerely appreciate the way that this information was presented and how it encourages everyone to find their best way to optimal health. I can’t wait to read her book or share.

  14. Melissa Boyle says:

Like Kris, this is EXACTLY the book I have been waiting for. It is so inspiring, affirming, and absolutely relevant to all of us who are looking to live as rich a life as we are possibly able! Thank you also to those who shared your own personal stories of beating the odds. These stories are so important to us!!!!!!!

  15. Laura says:

My father passed of stage 4 liver cancer and he was so stubborn about changing his diet. I tried to tell him to eat alkaline foods but he said he would rather stick to what he was eating. I met him where he was at and sometimes you have to do that because it is not my journey. I am a healer and I stress the importance of finding a daily practice of connection (usually through nature) to help people whether they have cancer or not. That seems to be the one thing that everyone who comes to see me is missing in their life. I think as humans we are want to connect because we are one. I love this research!

  16. Kathy says:

Brilliant 2 women that have helped and transformed my life, it brought tears to my eyes, I radically changed my diet, did an integrative approach, no cancer. I had read 3 of Kris books and Kellys book and they gave me the courage to make a substantial change in my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Love to you both for what you are giving this world.

  17. Aura Carr says:

    Wonderful interview. Truly inspiring.

  18. Aishwarya says:

Thank you for being so inspirational. Thank you Dr Kelly for the amazing book. It came at the right time for me. As my oncologist tells me the cancer I have is incurable, I’m now determined to follow your nine steps and hope for remission.

  19. Mazinga says:

Thank you very much for spreading the world.
I have bought and read the book in an instant. I was very thrilled when so that you interviewed Dr. Kelly.
I am not suffering from any disease but as you said it is not only for sick people. It is an eye opening for everybody on life style changes that we should do to keep a healthy body and mind.
