Hi Sweet Friends,
Welcome to my digital Queendom. I’m Kris Carr, New York Times and #1 Amazon best-selling author, wellness activist and cancer thriver. And I am passionate about… YOU. This is my soul space where I share my experiences and reflections through blogs and videos about plant-passionate living, health, happiness, spirituality, compassion and all things Crazy Sexy. Whether you’re a patient or someone who’s interested in better well—being—mind, body and spirit—all are welcome to the sacred party.
Crazy: Out-of-the-box, game-changing, trailblazing
Sexy: Empowered, whole, awake, active (ist).
My story… I’ve been living with cancer for over a decade and it’s taught me so much about purpose, passion and wellness. On Valentine’s Day in 2003, I was diagnosed with a rare and incurable (yet thankfully slow-growing) stage 4 cancer. This whiskey tango foxtrot moment (that’s military lingo for WTF?!) sparked a deep desire in me to stop holding back and start living like I mean it! Though I couldn’t be cured, I could still be healthy—I could still participate in my well-being, feel good, love harder and enjoy my life more fully. So I hit the road on a self-care pilgrimage and have never looked back. Nearly ten years later, my life is truly, madly magical—even while still living with cancer. If I can pull that off, just imagine what YOU can do.
What I learned transformed my life forever and I think it can help yours too. Through my books and film, my journey has resonated with thousands of health, spiritual wealth and happiness seekers. CanSer babes and “Prevention is HOT” cheerleaders have hopped on board the Crazy Sexy train to learn how to look and feel better, lose weight, reduce stress and suffering, have more energy and nourish their spirits—even Oprah got excited about our wellness revolution.
My wake-up call encouraged me to make a total lifestyle upgrade inside and out. It taught me how to listen to my brilliant inner guide, brought me back to nature (my church), the garden and kitchen (my pharmacies), and connected me more deeply with the people and animals who set my heart ablaze. I learned that a nutrient dense, plant-passionate diet rules, the Standard American Diet destroys (everything), stress sucks (life-force), exercise is non-negotiable (great for your head, heart, cells and ass-ets), joy is utterly contagious, and having fun must be taken very seriously.
Bridging Western Medicine and Integrative Care
While there’s currently no cure for my slow-growing cancer, that doesn’t mean that I’m not a fan of Western Medicine. I have an oncologist who I adore and who continues to monitor my condition. If my disease were to become aggressive or if effective and proven treatment options became available, I’d absolutely consider them. I fully believe in a balanced approach to healing and I want to see a world where doctors and patients embrace intelligent medicine as well as healthy lifestyle practices. For cancer patients (all patients really) I strongly advise including open-minded, well-educated practitioners on your team. Find the best conventional doctor for your disease as well as a holistic practitioner who can teach you how to care for your entire system. Heck, if you’re lucky you’ll get a two-fer—a doctor who is skilled at both approaches. Disease isn’t an either or situation, neither is health. Be the bridge. Seek the bridge. Shine bright!
I’ve written 5 books and made one Crazy Sexy award-winning film (dang!). Maybe one of my goodies will be right for you. Let’s take a tour.
Crazy Sexy Diet (NY Times Best Seller, #1 Amazon Best Seller) will teach you a thing or two about plant-based nutrition. It’s my manual for healthy living. Basically, I took all the education I’ve gathered over the years and tucked it into one handy-dandy book. Crazy Sexy Diet will teach you how to make vibrant energy deposits into your energy bank account, rather than the constant withdrawals that are all too common on the Standard American Diet (which is now a global diet).
After a zillion requests for more delicious recipes, I popped out my first cookbook with the help of our brilliant chef, Chad Sarno.
Crazy Sexy Kitchen (NY Times Best Seller) gives you the education, recipes and know-how needed to adopt a joyful and vibrant Crazy Sexy Diet and Lifestyle. This delicious veggie manifesto for gourmands and novices alike is filled with inspiration, education, and cooking tips—plus more than 150 nourishing, nosh-worthy recipes. Whether you’re a newbie cook or a fancy cheffy, a vegan or an omnivore, a jet-setter or a hot mama, this book will change your life.
You can follow my cancer journey in my documentary Crazy Sexy Cancer, which aired on both TLC and The Oprah Winfrey Network: OWN. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer (or know someone who has), check out my first two books, Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips and Crazy Sexy Cancer Survivor. You’ll find lots of advice on how to navigate your journey while adding a bounce to your step and a boost to your life! Oh, and you’ll laugh a lot—unless you’re quite proper (and a splash prim), then you won’t like my cussin’ and swagger.
If you want to start by dipping your toe into the pool of ultimate well-being, my Crazy Sexy Juice book is for you—it’s coming October 2015! Juicing and making green smoothies has vastly increased the quality of my life (and countless others). It’s the one daily practice that I will never ever abandon. This simple practice will give you power, energy and strength beyond words.
Crazy Sexy Programs: I wish I could come to your house and hold your hand through the process of change. My next best option is to create dynamic digital programs that will allow me to virtually mentor you as you become the CEO of your health.
I’d love to connect with you!
The best places to connect with me are in the comments of my blog or video posts or on Facebook and Twitter. Confession: I heart Instagram. It’s my secret love affair. I post, I stalk, I post again. And Pinterest is my dreaming space.
