How I’ve Navigated My Own
Stage IV Cancer Diagnosis
for Over 20 Years
Valentine’s Day 2003 is a day I’ll never forget. While everyone else was getting ready for dates, I was sitting in a doctor’s office hearing the words that would change my life forever: I had a rare and incurable stage IV sarcoma.
When I asked my doctor what I could do to help my body heal, his answer was basically, “watch and wait.” Since my cancer could be slow-moving or suddenly become aggressive, we would track it and let cancer make the first move.
But I didn’t want cancer to make the first move.
I wanted to be an active participant in my health. So I started thinking of myself as the CEO of Save My Ass Technologies, Inc. I interviewed oncologists, integrative practitioners and other experts like job applicants, determined to build the best team I could.
I read everything I could get my hands on, traveled to conferences and treatment centers, and learned from leading minds in cancer and epigenetics. Over time, I discovered something that changed everything::
There was a lot I could do to support
my health and healing.
