Why Setting Intentions Sets You Up for Success (video)

Hiya Gorgeous!

When was the last time you walked into a high-pressure meeting completely prepared and at ease? Started a difficult conversation with a sense of peace and calm?

For many of us, this might sound like an impossible dream.

Maybe you’re like me and these types of situations make your mind race and your heart pound. Or maybe the slightest hint of confrontation sends you running for the hills.

I’ve got news for you, sweet friend: it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. There’s a way to feel cool, calm and collected, whatever life throws your way.

You heard that right! And getting your hands on this secret will kick off a magical chain of events. It’ll lead you to a life filled with all the dreamy things you think about right before you shut your eyes at night. No magic wand required!

I’m talking about setting intentions.

I absolutely swear by this simple practice! It’s helped me grow my business, strengthen my health, improve my relationships and so much more.

I’ll give you an example:

I was invited to a fancy gala. I really wanted to go, but just the thought of it made my palms sweaty and my stomach do backflips.

See, sometimes I get a little social anxiety (if this sounds like you,Β you’re not alone!). I knew I’d need the universe on my side to make it a positive experience. Before heading into the event, I took a minute to close my eyes and set an intention: I told myself I’d be present and connect with an open heart.

And guess what? The universe was there for me. I had a blast and made meaningful connections with some really inspiring people. My palms even stayed nice and dry!

If I hadn’t set my intention, I might have skipped out on those conversations or shied away from introducing myself to wonderful new friends.

Our thoughts and actions create our reality. Setting intentions before you act gives your intuition (not to mention that ultra-positive inner light of yours) a chance to guide the outcome. You’re co-creating with life. Pretty cool, right?

So hit play on my video and learn why setting intentions (and being intentional in general) will set you up for success…

In this video, you’ll learn:

  • Why setting intentions is critical before any big decision
  • How you can use intentions to bring positivity to even the toughest moments
  • The benefits of setting intentions including clearer priorities, deeper connection, and better conflict resolution
  • Plus the book I recommend to start your own intention setting practice

And that’s all there is to it! After some practice, you can try to set intentions for the day, day to day. Harness the power of being intentional to set the tone for the day and help youΒ achieve your goals for personal growth.

Before we wrap, let’s do a quick review. Step one: set an intention. Step two: take big, brave steps toward your best life. Step three: watch out, world!

Your turn: What’s one intention that would set you up for success today? Share yours in the comments below.

Peace and mindful intentions,

  1. Emily says:

Thanks Kris. Great advice for me right now. I have an irksome ex husband and I ALWAYS have to remember to be mindful before I enter into conversations with him. I also have a 14 year old son who is starting to show some of the troublesome behavior that his father has always used! I want to be especially mindful as I navigate the relationship with my son. He is like a super sensitive gauge when it comes to my tone of voice. Great reminder to keep it all in check and to dig deep so that my heart shines through. Peace out

  2. Tracey says:

My oncologist has β€˜left the building’ I now need to have meetings with other doctors – my intention will be to listen and not pre judge and pray the right Dr will come into my life.

    • kris says:

That’s a great intention, Tracey. And I think it will help you narrow your search as you find the best doctor for you.

  3. Rodica says:

My intention is to set up a global association which offer support, inspiration, and motivation for expatriates spouses and partners around the world.
Thank you very much, Kris. You are an inspiration and a great support for me.
    From Paris, with love,
    Rodica

  4. EJ says:

Great reminder. Appreciate your advice. You inspire me!

  5. Camille says:

Thank you for this. There is a conference I’ve been wondering if I should attend. This gave me good thoughts to consider.

  6. I’m sending out promotional e-mails for my new book and mastermind groups today. I want to set the intention that anyone who needs to hear my message and pursue their awe-thentic impact will be inspired to join me on the journey.

  7. I have an important meeting this morning with a potential funder for my new video blog. I want to be well funded and I’d like these peeps to be part of my launch (they underwrote a previous fundraising event I produced and
we all worked well together). So, my intention is to come from love and invite them to be a part of a business model that can change our little corner of the world here in Dallas, it will benefit all involved.

  8. Lilith says:

Thank You so much Kris ~ crucial timing for me. A year and a half ago, I worked for weeks against the odds to rescue a dog whose shelter photo an Instagram friend tagged me on and ended up fostering him and bonding to him deeply as we lived and trained together (beautiful, positive reinforcement). It wasn’t fair to keep him with my sparky but quite old girl. He and my friend’s rescue fell in love and we made it official last summer. But last week, friend didn’t close her gate properly and Evan ran into the cold upstate NY woods after a deer. A team of us has been ceaselessly covering all bases but the cold here is intense and I regularly lapse into my worst fears for him. I am writing to tell you that I am driving these hundreds of miles searching, posting flyers and stopping to talk with people WHILE LISTENING to your meditations, especially the fear one! THANK YOU it truly helps reel me back in. In protractedly dire circumstances, it is easier to re-set with something concrete at hand, like your audio. Thank you for the work you do, for keeping the world’s vibes high.

    • kris says:

Lilith, I am so sorry and I am praying for your beautiful dog friend, Evan. I’m not sure where upstate, but I remember searching the lost pets of the hudson valley FB page when I was looking for Buddy’s parents, after we found him in the woods. It’s a very active page, might help you. https://www.facebook.com/LostPetsOfTheHudsonValley/ … You’re an amazing soul and you’re doing everything you can, and I’m so glad you’re using my meditations to support you. May Evan be safe and found, swiftly. Surrounding you, Evan and everyone searching for him with love.

      • Lilith says:

Oh Thank you SO very kindly, Kris, for your prayers and love which mean so much and which I will extend to all! I picture sweet Evan warmed in spirit by your giant heart.
We were referred by the dedicated, local town animal control women to a very highly regarded dog-rescue trapper. Her experience with short-haired dogs like Evan making it through weather such as this for prolonged periods is encouraging to us. Today was another nonstop morning-til-nighter, with no luck, but keeping hopeful.
Thank you as well for taking the time to provide me the link to LPoHV! I hadn’t known of it but someone else did, and Evan, being in Sullivan County, (about 1hr SW of magical Woodstock), has been posted there; such a blessing of a resource, especially because apparently dogs will sometimes run far from home as a result of β€œsurvival mode” kicking in. I can’t wait to let you know, here, when your β€œsafe and found” prayer has been answered and Evan is back home playing and pretzeling with his dear sister (and no loosey-goosey gate action ever again).

        • Ali says:

Hi Lilith Have you tried an animal communicator? Also there is an amazing psychic based in New Zealand and although not strictly an animal communicator she loves dogs and may be able to assist. Her facebook you will find under Psychic Medium Sue Nicholson. Perhaps send her a message and see if she can tune in and offer help. She has featured on a tv show helping with unsolved crime cases. She is incredible.

          • Lilith says:

Hi Ali, Thank You so very much for your thoughtful reply and great advice! I ought to have posted sooner than Evan returned on his own after 6 days and nights. Had he not, I would have surely considered contacting Sue. I will check her out anyway, for her beautiful gift!

      • Lilith says:

Update: Evan is safe and found after having been gone for 6 freezing days and nights! THANK YOU, Dear Kris, for your love and support which I know was instrumental in bringing Evan home, for whilst we were doing all we were supposed to be doing to try to find him, Evan was making his own way home, no doubt protected and guided by the love and prayers sent to him from near and far <3. Something tells us that KC love has extra powers, so we are especially thank-full to you and your giant heart!!

  9. Geri says:

This is probably just what I needed right now. I recently lost my job and am wondering what to do with my life at 56 years old. My intention is to find (or create) a job that will be fulfilling while I make enough money to pay for the fun things I want to do!

    • kris says:

Great intention Geri. You know, for me, sometimes when things change or fall apart it’s because I was meant to go in a new direction, one that I wasn’t seeing or embracing. Perhaps the universe was doing for you what you weren’t ready to do for yourself. Excited for your new chapter!

  10. Kim says:

Good timing here. I am doing sign-in for an event this Saturday and a woman with whom I had a supposed friendship with is the presenter this week. I broke the association off as I felt I had become more her audience than a friend. If she needed to brag or bitch, she would show up either via text or call, but set a date to have coffee, go for a hike, get together, meet for lunch? Nope, couldn’t get that to work. So, this will be the first time we are face-to-face since that and it could be uncomfortable. My intention would be for it to go smoothly with a cordial, neutral, even pleasant interaction.

  11. Wendy says:

Kris you are an inspiration to us all!! I have been studying intensions and trying to instill in others the power of intensions. We all know everyone has their own perception of their outcome. Why not choose happiness, love, peace and knowing that everything will be fantastic in the moments to come this day?!!! This moment is all we have to control for ourselves. Make the most of it!!

I have spread the news about your story of healing and health. Chris Wark as well!! Knowledge is powerful as well and you have taught me well my friend~and for this I am grateful!! Feels like we have met and the effortlessness is contagious!!!

  12. Great video, Kris. I have an upcoming conference call with several higher-ups at our co-packing facility and will set the intention to be calm, yet speak up for my company. I want to make sure we’re all on the same page and that we’re being treated a valuable client. Thanks!

  13. Maggie says:

I’m going to try to relax and be myself in the office tomorrow and show the people I’m scared of as much warmth as I can manage!

  14. areena says:

yess my intention is to meet my twin flame romantic, supportive, abundant, fun, adventurous, passionate, stable long lasting partner this year. I’M READY! =D

  15. Wendy says:

I like this and will use you advice. Always with love and compassion ruling every conversation…, I will listen to your other videos, thanks so much for you inspiring work.

  16. Marci says:

I am having almost constant pain and discomfort, resulting from cancer, radiation and surgery, in and around my tailbone. The pain in that area of my body seems to want all of my focus and because it has such an impact on my life, it’s difficult for my focus to be positive. Any ideas? Physical pain is a whole new ballgame for me!

    • kris says:

I’m so sorry to hear that, Marci. Have you talked to your oncologist about it? If not, I encourage you to do so.
Another ideas: acupuncture, gentle massage, epsom salt baths. Also, tapping (EFT) can help with the stress that comes as a result of the pain, so can meditation. I would also research holistic pain management for cancer patients and see what else you find that resonates. Hope that helps a bit. Thinking of you… xo!

  17. This was perfect for me today. Thanks!

  18. Meenu says:

Thank you for sharing this Kris. This has reinforced the clarity habit mentioned in Brendon Burchard’s book. You rock :*

  19. Maureen says:

I love this Kris. I suffer from some social anxiety too and will often let it stop me from doing things I really want to do. Next time I am going to set an intention and follow your guide. Thank you so much for your amazing insight and willingness to share and be vulnerable with your followers!

  20. Janet says:

Wow! What timing! I recently returned from a wonderful personal development & motivational seminar that spoke of “where your focus goes, energy flows”. It was great. But, when I returned home, I wasn’t sure where to start. Then, I opened this e-mail & watched the video. Now, I can create a daily intention to help me in the direction I desire to go. Ironically, (or perhaps not so ironic), I wrote in my notebook just this morning, a new desire that promotes health & well being, increases connections, is fun & frees up time to do other activities i.e. spending more time with my aging parents, while providing an income that’s adequate to support my needs. I’m presently in an opposite environment, so perhaps putting this intention out there, will provide ideas. Thanks to all of you for your comments; they’re inspiring & helpful

    • kris says:

Yes, Janet! I love how the universe works and I’m happy this video was helpful. Because I love copywriting, I want to make one suggestion. How about changing the word adequate to abundant?! A simple tweak that can yield awesome results. May all your intentions and dreams come true. x

      • Janet Aumann says:

Thank you Kris! I love that! Your reply was an awesome surprise. πŸ™‚ (I think there’s still a part of me that feels squeamish if I ask for too much, assuming I’m pulling away from another. But that’s kind of silly because I also believe there’s abundance for all and, that’s how the universe and God works.) So, I thank you for this beautiful reminder. I have now changed my wording and express this intention daily and I love it. πŸ™‚
