Love List: Top 15 Crazy Sexy Diet Tips

Crazy Sexy Diet Posse!

I’m bowled over by the massively supportive and enthusiastic response to Crazy Sexy Diet! It’s now the #1 best selling book on Amazon. Holy green juice! It filled me with joy to see hundreds of health crusaders ready to take 2011 by storm at my New York City book tour events this week. And did you happen to tune-in when I rocked the plants on Good Morning America? If you haven’t picked up Crazy Sexy Diet yet, what are you waiting for, sassy? Check out some of my top tips for supercharged living below, plus my favorite green juice and smoothie recipes. This handy list is a great reminder when you fall off the wellness wagon.

Peace & sparkly unicorns,
Kris Carr

Top 15 Crazy Sexy Diet Tips

1. Get back to nature and back to the garden – preferably the organic garden – when affordable – when not, try to choose fruits and veggies that are less sprayed. You can find a Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides at There are more than 80,000 chemicals in our world today. Eating them and putting them on our bodies is a dangerous proposition.

2. Create an anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle. Learn about pH, the acid/alkaline balance, and say goodbye to the SAD, acidic diet in favor of alkaline raw organic veggies, sprouts, green drinks, green smoothies, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, love and oxygen.

3. Make juice not war. Green smoothies are great too. My favorite juicers are the Breville Juice Fountain Multi-Speed, Omega 4000 and Hurom Slow Juicer. The best blender is the Vitamix. Instead of your morning cup of Joe, (or nightly cup of booze) try filling your day with fresh vegetable juice.

4. Drink lots of clean, purified water.

5. Decrease the amount of animal products you consume (especially dairy products) and move toward more of a plant-based diet.

6. Refined sugars and processed starches are the devil – dump them. If it’s made in a lab it takes a lab to digest. If it has a shelf life longer than you, don’t eat it. Choose low glycemic foods as much as possible.

7. Shake your booty. Your lymph system, which carries away waste, needs you! Unlike your heart, it doesn’t have a pump.  Aerobics is the pump. Brisk walking is the pump. Yoga is the pump.

8. Give your colon a regular spring-cleaning. That’s right, flood your body with alkalinity and flush out toxins. As the good stuff goes in the bad stuff should come out – on a regular basis.

9. Use natural skincare products. Your skin is your largest organ and what you put on it you literally drink in. Everything you consume either gets assimilated or eliminated. Chemical creams and perfumes tax your body big time.

10. Stress also creates acidity, so turn down the volume on chaos and turn up the joy factor. Find and regularly commit to activities that help you bring it down a notch. Some ideas: meditation, gratitude journaling, guided relaxation or visualization CD’s, nature.

11. Snooze. Snooze. Snooze. Optimal hours: 11-7am.

12. Chew. Your stomach does not have teeth.

13. And stop eating late so that when you snooze, your body can focus on repair instead of digestion.

14. Set boundaries so that you have the physical and emotional time to take care of yourself – it’s not selfish, it’s self-preserving.

15. Make time for fun, for love, for laughter!

Make Juice Not War Green Drink
It’s our motto and our morning beverage. Here’s what we serve in the Carr/Fassett home daily. This recipe makes almost 32 oz.

-2 large cucumbers (peeled if not organic)
-Big fist full of kale or romaine
-Big fist full of sweet pea sprouts (if easy to find)
-4-5 stalks celery
-1-2 big broccoli stems
-1-2 pears or green apples (optional)
*Other optional greens we love: spinach

Kris Carr’s Green Smoothie
Makes enough for 2 people. You can adjust the recipe accordingly. My taste buds are different than yours so don’t be afraid to play!

-1 Avocado
-1-2 pieces of low glycemic fruit: we love green apple, pear, berries & cantaloupe
-1 Cucumber
-A bit of kale or romaine or spinach
-Coconut water (or purified water)
-Stevia to taste
*You can also add a sprinkle of cinnamon and some cacao.
*You can also use coconut meat or almond butter or nut milk in place of avocado.

Peace & abundant health,

Kris Carr

I went macro/vegan 9 months ago after reading The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone. I am really enjoying it but would love to move gently in the direction of more raw veggies and green drinks. 27. I went vegan to support my friends living with cancer. On December 25, 2010 after meeting Chef AJ in Los Angeles and hearing her survival story, we converted. She has lots of YouTube videos. Dang, sugar was hard to give up… and the benefits are so many including no more hot flashes!

Kris–Your “Crazy,Sexy Cancer” film is mandatory for my doctoral students. You have a HUGE following in Los Angeles! Thanks for the recipes. Can’t wait to get my hands on your book!

  31. I just bought your Crazy Sexy book for my 23 year old daughter who, after a 2 year search for a diagnosis, she was told she has an autoimmune disease called Takayasu Arteritis. It affects her large arteries and causes a lot of inflammation in her body. We are going to try eating more plant based! She came over and made the vege drink this a.m. before work. I hope she stays on-board! I am not sure she realizes how much it could help her! I will let you know how it goes and if it helps her. It will be a good testament to other young 20-somethings!

  32. Thank you Kris, for making it sooooo simple :)

  33. I got the very last CSD book on the shelves of my local Borders! I was so disappointed that I could not find it and searched out a Borders employee–it was stuck in with a bunch of diet books. bless you
    Ms Noble

  35. Will you be speaking locally anytime soon? Would love to see you in Woodstock!

  36. I like this compilation really. Only thing I miss here is that losing weight takes time. Too fast loss of weight may have some counter productive effects on your body chemistry and metabolism. Gaining weight does not happen overnight so getting rid of the extra kilos should take time. Even if there is a faster lane – think about it: fast result may not last as the getting fat period took weeks or even months to accomplish, right?

  37. This book and site are like a shot of everything good and healing!
    Thank you Kris

    a fellow dreamer

  38. St. Louis!! Come to St. Louis!!!!

  43. I am inspired by your example, Kris.
I don’t have cancer, am blessed with pretty good genes and longevity, and I want to honor this “gift” from the universe by living and eating the best way possible.
This morning, I named my negative voice “Cruella” from “101 Dalmations.” So far, I have told her off 3 times. felt GOOD!

On a practical note, I am researching juicers. I have read about the 4 you recommend (Breville Ikon, Omega 8003, Vitamix and Hurom Slow Juicer), but I am – honestly – still confused. I need one good juicer, not four.

What is your top recommendation for a juicer? (PS – I am a public school teacher, not an independently wealthy heiress).

Thanks so much, Kris, for your shining example.
