My Not-So-Secret Healthy Habit: Green Smoothies!

Hi Sweet Friends,

Juicing may be my main squeeze, but green smoothies take a close second and sometimes they’re exactly what my body needs to function at it’s best.

These blended nutrition blasts certainly save the day when I’m short on time in the kitchen, but don’t want to short change my health.

Toss all the plant-based ingredients in a blender and press a button! Within minutes I have a fiber-filled, satisfying meal that balances my blood sugar and fills me with long-lasting energy. Plus, hard-working fiber is our digestive system’s BFF and the arch enemy of toxins. It sweeps the junk out of the body and keeps Grand Pooper Station right on schedule!

All you need to become a smoothie superstar are nourishing, delicious recipes, some blending smarts and a quality machine.

When I started whipping up green smoothies, I made some pretty gnarly concoctions, not the kind of drink you’d want to throw back on a regular basis. It took a lot of experimentation before I could create delicious smoothies on the fly. I want to make it easier for you! That’s why I pulled together every drop of my smoothie know-how, plus over 100 phenomenal smoothie (and juice!) recipes in my book, Crazy Sexy Juice.

What’s the difference between smoothies and juices?

Now that I’ve showed you how to make one of my favorite green smoothies in the video above, you may be curious about the difference between blending and juicing. My readers are always asking which is better. The answer depends on your personal taste, your lifestyle and what supports your health best (usually they both do, just in different ways!). I juice more than I blend, but both are cornerstones of my lifelong self-care plan.

It’s much more fun to compare blending and juicing using a super snazzy infographic, which is why I made one for you!

I hope you’ll download it below, print it and post it near your blending and/or juicing altar (aka kitchen counter) and share the heck out of it on social media.

KrisCarr-Juicing-vs-Blending

Let’s wrap up this smoothie crash course with some of my readers’ most asked questions. Read on to learn about my favorite blenders, tips for raising smoothie-lovin’ kids and some storage smarts.

Frequently Asked Blending Questions

What blender should I buy?

I’m not going to sugar coat this: A high-speed blender can be pricey with some models starting at $300-$500, but it’s a lifelong investment. I use my blender on a daily basis for smoothies, soups, dips and sauces. If you’re a bargain-hunter, search online for a used machine. Who knows? You might be able to barter with a friend for one! Just be sure you’re getting a machine that will make creamy, dreamy smoothies. Cheap, not-so-great blenders leave lots of chunky greens in your drink and in your teeth. No, thanks! Here are some tried and true blender recommendations:

How can I get my kids to enjoy green smoothies?

Smoothies are one of the easiest ways to add leafy greens and other nourishing plant-based foods into your child’s diet. Since my fur-kid doesn’t drink green smoothies, I turned to some of my pals (who also happen to have green smoothie guzzling rugrats) for this question. After surveying them for some tips, I put together these gems for you:

  • Pull a chair up to the counter and get the kids involved! Let your child add smoothie ingredients with your supervision. The little ones will love turning on the blender and watching the veggies, fruits and other goodies take a spin.
  • Avoid smoothie rejection by serving green-tinted recipes in a solid colored cup that has a top.
  • Use frozen berries and bananas to add sweetness, creaminess and hide the veggie taste. Frozen berries will also give smoothies a nice red, purple or blue color. Just make sure you’re still packing the veggies in there!

Can I make smoothies ahead of time and freeze them for later?

Yes! I like to drink my smoothies right away (fresh is always best), but if you know that freezing your smoothies will insure that you’ll drink them on a more regular basis, go for it. Don’t forget to leave a little room at the top of your storage container, since your smoothie will expand in the freezer (the same goes for green juice).

If I make enough for 2 smoothies, but both for me, how long will the other portion keep? (in fridge). I was thinking of juicing carrots / apple for the liquid part of the smoothie. Thanks.

  8. Howdy outstanding website! Does running a blog like this take a large amount of
work? I’ve no knowledge of computer programming however I had been hoping to start
my own blog in the near future. Anyways, should you have any ideas or techniques for new blog owners
please share. I understand this is off subject but
I just wanted to ask. Thanks a lot!

  9. I definately love this blog and think you should mention some work with a hand crank blender.

  10. Lorraine Curtis says:

The smoothie looks good. I’ll try it, even though I don’t like avocado. lol you look just wonderful. I admire your courage, to keep it moven.

  11. Hi Kris,
Where are the sprouts in your smoothies? I am a Raw Food Chef and I use sprouts for their enzymes; the building blocks of proteins. You only need a small amount, but it is so important.

I do not eat Bananas; too much Potassium for my body and it gives me muscle cramps. Instead I use apples or pears, and I love pineapple.

Our center is in construction; Spring Creek Holistic and Organic Farm. We will be offering detoxification programs and Cancer Treatment using organic raw food and yoga along with bodywork, meditation and of course organic gardening. I will be inviting guest speakers once our “teaching kitchen” is complete. Please visit us any time.

  14. What a GREAT smoothie and instructional video!! Thank you so much for sharing : )

I have lots of recipes I and put them in 6 separates themed booklets called Anna’s Kitchen for my husband’s Yoga students. Here’s one I use that is close to yours:

    -mango (instead of banana)
    -lemon (instead of cucumber)
    -blueberries
    -avacado
    -kale
    -bit of flax oil
-sometimes I add ginger (for stimulation or pita/fire)
-sometimes I add cayenne (decrease kapha/mucous/arthritis)
-sometimes I add cinnamon and cardamom (builder)
    -coconut water

  15. Ann Marie says:

My husband and I have been drinking green smoothies for lunch and breakfast for over 10 years so it is always great to see another recipe. We don’t use the coconut water so will try that for an extra treat. Wondering about mixing the proteins with the avocado and the coconut water and mixing the starchy banana with the acid blueberries as it goes against basic food combination rules. If there is a rule to break it is mixing veggies with fruit as typically “fruit alone” as they say – but I feel if it is blended, then it is already “pre-digested” so we don’t need to be so careful about food combinations. So I mix kale with fruit and avocado all the time – but just never combine banana with acid fruit. What do you think?

  16. carol says:

I recently started using Kefir as the main ingredient for my smoothies. Since they are very thick, I have a mid-afternoon smoothie “dessert using 8 oz kefir, home ground peanut butter, cacao, banana and a little stevia.

  17. Faith McCann says:

One of my favorite smoothies is this,1 frozen banana, handful of spinach, half an avocado, one tablespoon kefir, and strawberry yogurt,1-2 tbsp of coconut oil,2tsp minced ginger, whey protein powder,1-2 tsp honey, pineapple juice….and some almond milk to cover.this is very yummy.
I had tongue cancer and throat cancer, this smoothie has been my life saver.I beat cancer!

  18. Faith McCann says:

    One frozen banana,handful of spinach,1 tsp.minced ginger,half avocado,whey protein powder,almond milk.1tbsp.coconut oil,,and pineapple juice.sprinkle some cinnamon.or nutmeg. This is my favorite smoothie.

  19. Helen says:

Chris can you also recommend a juicer for a newbie to juicing?

  20. Was reading something interesting the other week.

Did you know that during the war years, if a soldier was wounded and needed a blood transfusion and they didn’t have any plasma to give him, they would transfuse him with coconut water instead. Apparently a very similar chemical composition to blood. The electrolytes would keep the patient hydrated until their body could replace the blood lost.

  21. Maureen says:

Kris I love your books and all your helpful hints. I just bought your Crazy Sexy Juice and Smoothie book and downloaded it last night. I just finished Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips and I’m starting CS Cancer Survivor. My question is about freezing individual vegies. I’m starting to grow my own kale and other greens. Can I freeze the kale leaves or should I blanch them first? I didn’t realize how much kale I would get and thankfully I have plenty…I just want to be able to use it to it’s full potential. Any tips you can share about freezing greens and other vegies on your blog or facebook page would be wonderful. And if you have them in your books then it’s my bad…I need to take more time to do my research 😉 Thanks again for everything you are doing for us canSer warriors! xoxo

  22. Ashley says:

    Kris,

How many times a week would you say you juice or make smoothies?

  23. Naoko says:

    Hello
I just wanted to drop a note to say THANK YOU!
I read Crazy Sexy Diet and have gone through all the goodness you dish out on the web.
I have been eating a plant based diet for about 5 years now, but had always been green juice/smoothie shy.
But after reading all the great stuff you write about guzzling greens, I thought I might as well give it a go.
I’m SO glad I did. My body loves me this morning. I feel wonderful.
Thank you for sharing this, and all the other amazing stuff you put out in the world. You rock the world!!

  24. Interestingly, most individuals right now are not even mindful of
small carb meals which can give them healthy and balanced way of living if they abide by a ordinary routine of
consumption on a weekly basis. Directions: Combine ingredients (except for chocolate chips) in blender
and blend until smooth. By replacing one or more meals with green smoothies everyday, you give your body optimum nutrition while staving the need
to snack unnecessarily during the day.

  25. Catherine Vora says:

I just want to say I really feel great affection towards you. You are very sweet and have a big heart and as a young woman looking up, you inspire me and I am grateful you are paving the way for a better life for not only yourself but everyone. Big love from Richmond in London UK. Cat x

    HI Kris, Saw you speak in DC area and you brought so much joy and sparkle to the conference, thank you-I love making smoothies and this is my recipe;
frozen blueberries, kale, cucumber, cinnamon, trader jobs dried greens ( 1 tablespoon) fresh ginger & sometimes frozen strawberries, raspberries, or cherries.
    This is yummy 🙂

I noticed that you are now offering courses that are on cd to start your own business- are you planning on doing actual live courses?
Merry Christmas to you ! Happy Holidays
    Cheers
    Darlene

  27. Awesome. Especially the tips on getting kids to drink these healthy smoothies and get past the green color.

  28. Hi Kris! I’m such a fan of you!:) I’m also INSANE over smoothies since the green smoothie first romanced me back in 2009. I’ve been having one for breakfast ever since. I make them super thick, freeze for an hour covered and come back and eat it with a spoon like ice cream- so delish! Here’s my go to recipe:)

The Soulful Spoon’s Chocolate Chai Green Dream Smoothie

2 cucumbers, chopped and frozen ( like you would bananas)
    3 cups raw spinach
    1 cup romaine
1 scoop Garden of Life Raw Meal Vanilla Chai
    2 tbsp. raw cacao
    1 tsp. chia seeds
    1 tsp. flax seeds
    5 ice cubes
1 cup Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk
    1 tsp. spirulina
    1/4 tsp. pure stevia extract
    cinnamon
    ginger
    1 tsp. maca
    1 cup water

    Blend!:) It’s so delish:)

Thanks for inspiring me on so many levels:) You’re awesome!

  29. Tracy says:

I just purchased your book and starting watching your cooking videos.

Just a couple questions. 1. You mentioned that you juice one and keep them in mason jars but have to use the same day cause they get a little funky. Have you ever tried the foodsaver attachment for canning jars to take all of the air out to try to prolong the use of the juice? I do this with alot of my veggies to make them last longer as well as my salad in a jar.

    2. If it gets a little funky have you ever tried to mix yesterdays juice with stuff you just made?

    3. Can you freeze juice? Thoughts

I am really am a picky eater and just worried I will not like the taste and won’t do this also usually very short on time and would love to try this.

  30. Melanie says:

    My fave combination is:
    One frozen banana
    Handful of frozen mango
2 or 3 generous handfuls of kale or spinach or romaine
    1 tbsp almond butter
    1 tbsp hemp hearts
    1 tsp chia seeds
    Enough almond milk to cover

    Blend and enjoy!

I was inspired by Oh She Glows’ green monster.
My kids love this with the spinach or romaine. The kale is a bit too strong a taste for them, for now. They’ll get used to it 😉

  31. Kerry D says:

Thank you Kris for all your wonderful advise. In 2008 I went through breast cancer treatment. I got your book Crazy Sexy Cancer and from there on have been a fan! Sometimes, I don’t stick to my juicing and smoothie regimen as I should and feel terrible. My blood sugars go crazy and a smoothie for lunch fixes me right up. . I use a Nutribullet. Works fine for me, only thing is it doesn’t pulverize the stems of grapes and have to pick them out of my smoothie.

  32. Marisa says:

    Hey Kris!
That looks like a kick-butt blender. Any recommendations? Also, do you get that lovely golden hair from an organic product? I’m looking to switch to non-toxic coloring techniques.
    Thanks!

  33. Melissa says:

I’m waiting on my blender. I’ve ordered the big daddy 44000rpms….

Its been on back order since May. now however I’ve been told that I will have it this week! I’m looking forward to making some Green Smoothies using only one appliance. Currently I am juicing my greens (Kale/Silverbeet/Cucumber) and blending the rest in my old milkshake maker. 2 clean ups but worth the effort.

Kris on a side note I’ve just read your books cover to cover this weekend and have started C.S.D today. I look forward to sharing my results with you but mostly I want to smack Diabetes out of the park……I don’t have it yet however it is lurking….

    Its time!

  34. I can’t believe I never thought to put my toddlers smoothie in a tinted cup!
    Thank you!

  35. Just want to say how much I’m enjoying your cookbook!

I also love my green smoothies! Although I like to experiment I always come back to my personal favorite.

  36. Just made my FAV today from Crazy Sexy Kitchen – The Aztec smoothie! Love that one for a zingy pickup!

  37. Hi Kris!

I’m doing, for the second time, the cleanse following your wonderful program. But, if I like very very much juices i don’t like a lot smoothies for their consistency: what should I do to make them better? I don’t like the fact that my blender leaves a lot of pieces “unblended” of fruits!

  38. Keith says:

Here are my two favorite recipes…for both, just throw everything into a blender and mix till smooth(ish)/

    Breakfast/Lunch:
1/2 Cup Plain Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
    4 Tbsp Chia Seeds (Ground)
    1/2 Cup Frozen Blueberries
    1/2 Cup Kale
1/2 Cup Berry Boost or Blue Goodness
    1/2 Banana
    1 Cup Water

    Dinner…sort of a Gazpacho in a glass:
1/2 Cup Plain Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
    2 Tbsp Chia Seeds (Ground)
1 Cup Grape or Cherry Tomatoes
    1/2 Cup Sweet Peppers
    1 Serrano Pepper
    2 Tbsp Red Onion
    4 or 5 Kalamata Olives
    1 Tbsp Fresh Garlic
    1/2 English Cucumber
    1 Carrot (optional)
3/4 Cup Ice or Filtered Water

I often eat these smoothies for all three meals a day…when I do my blood pressure is perfect, I loose about 1 pound per day, and blood tests show my nutrition is nearly perfect. YMMV.

  39. Nancy L. says:

I wanted to share what I’ve recently done with the pulp from my juicing. I do not like wasting all that goodness. I cannot afford a vitamix right now so I use my magic bullet , well sometimes I’ll drink it that way and sometimes not, well what to do with the pulp? I saved it and thought about it. Well I created a meatloaf with it and used Tempeh My saved pulp and spices, tamara , and if you eat meat a little meat but not the main ingrediant. My pulp had carrot and celery and kale and spinach beet , arugula , etc… All kinds of stuff I added onions and garlic. OMG YUM!!! I used carrot pulp for Oatmeal cookies too! Creativity and desire wow we could Rule the world!! hahahahaha in a good way! Peace and Love Love you Kris!!!

  40. Joanna says:

So sorry, typo again! It’s Dr. Clement.

  41. Joanna says:

Sorry typo! I meant Dr. Clenet

  42. Joanna says:

Here’s the Dr. Cheney link I watched: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=LwyPfZeVmlA&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DLwyPfZeVmlA

You can see what he says.

  43. Joanna says:

Kris, what about people like Dr. Brian Clement from Hippocrates Health, who say green smoothies are bad for your health? Siting fetmentation, putrification, and skipping the salivary digestion process…and more. There are so many videos on YouTube of him speaking about this topic, promoting juicing and warning against green smoothies. I’d love to please get your take on this! Thanks so much.

  44. amber skyring says:

    Kris,
I am so confused! If you have cancer…. hey there CSC lady… me too! I thought we were not supposed to eat any sugars including fruits! All recipes everyone talks about re raw contain quite a bit of fruit and according to Dr Mercola, he says keep below 15gms a day….that’s only 1/2 banana and a very small amount of low fructose fruits e.g. berries etc….Most of these recipes you provide contain fruit and yet you seem well enough and keeping your cancer stable…. Please can you give more advise on this? Amber.
p.s I have been stable too for 2 years ( I still have my tumors but they are not grown but really miss fruit!!!).

  45. I love your website! Thanks for the demo on the green smoothie. I have a Nutribullet and I like to use broccoli stems and dandelion leaves w/ frozen banana, strawberries, almond milk, and a scoop of peanut butter.

  46. Kate Worley says:

Drinking this smoothie as I write this comment! Delicious!

  47. Sheryl says:

Tart cherries are in season at u-picks in NY, they would be amazing in a smoothie or juice!

  48. Theresa Key says:

I was just looking for a new smoothie to try. Thx girl! I love your blog and all that you give here. My daughters absolutely love your videos and they dance with you on the intro:) – Thank you for sharing let us (all your fans) know what we can do for you!

  49. Jackie says:

Hi Kris – I have a Champion Juicer…..I usually just use it to make up a veggie mix for the dogs (lol) but will have to get it out and start using it for me. Do you have any tips at all for me about using the Champion Juicer for my smoothies?
    Thanks – love following you!
    Jackie

  50. Dear dear dear dear Miss Kris, I downloaded your E-Guide a few days ago, and it’s turbo-charged my green smoothie regimen. So many tasty alternatives to what was just starting to slip into monotony. Thank you so much for both the inspiration and the practical advice. kiss kiss, Kate

  51. pam says:

Thanks. I have been wondering if the blender would work as well. I have not made any green smoothies yet but have been just drinking water in the morning. I will try one tomorrow. I was afraid the pulp would be too much to drink…but will give it a try. I do get hungry in the morning and that water helps but doesn’t take away the hunger and I find myself watching the clock for 12.

  52. Anita says:

I bought this e-guide last year and it’s completely changed the way I approach food. I LOVE juicing and it’s such an easy guide to follow and read. I’ve told anyone I know who is dealing with any kind of illness to make this one simple change in their life. Just reading this e-guide had me running out the door to buy my juicer (a simple, not too expensive Phillips) and a big bunch of kale! It literally takes 15 mins to juice, wash (the juicer) and go on with your day. Thanks Kris. Love the work you do 🙂

  53. Karalee says:

I would rather have “Crazy Sexy Juices & Succulent Smoothies in book form…Are you planning on putting it in print?

  54. Karla says:

Thanks for the video and post! I’ve been doing green smoothies for a couple years: kale or collards, banana, apple, brazil nut (selenium), cocoa/cinnamon (antioxidants), goji berries, amla powder (crazy-high antioxidants), lemon (with peel and seeds), flax or hemp seeds (fatty acids), protein powder, frozen fruit (I like blueberries, raspberries, and sometimes cranberries, pineapple.

I recently started juicing and am going for: celery, cuke, carrot, fennel, cilantro, lemon or lime, kale, broccoli, pear, and apple. 🙂

  55. Denise says:

I love your spunkiness! It makes me so happy! I was diagnosed with breast cancer July 2012… I am still on my chemo. I have had a bilateral mastectomy now.
I was just wondering about the juicing…. If I buy mason jars and make extra juice and store it in there for a couple days is that ok? Or does the vitamins etc diminish?

  56. Kris Carr says:

Thanks Harriet! I really love your blog. x

    • Just read your new post on juicing…

So you’re still of the mind that both juicing and blending are great? Here’s what I can’t figure out: Some people say that oxidation of plants via high speed juicing or blending is bad for you. Is that really true? Do raw vegetables when heated via those high speeds oxidize the same way that fats do when subjected to heat? Or do the phytonutrients in plants act as anti-oxidants and offer protection?

Has anyone read any good science on this?

  57. Katie says:

I mostly blend. My go-to base is 1 cuke, 1 banana, 1-2 cups of water, 1/2 lemon or lime, 1 cup frozen fruit, and 3-4 big handfuls of greens (kale, collards, and spinach are my faves). This makes a solid quart or more.

I use a Breville ikon Hemisphere, which was $150 and works really quite well. I make nuts milks successfully with it too. It’s perfect for someone just starting out and doesn’t want to spend for a vitamix yet. If it ever breaks, I will go with a Vitamix since I know I’ll use it now.

I juice with it too by blending and then straining it through a jelly bag (at your hardware store).

  58. Natalie says:

    Hello
I was very excited to purchase the e book on juices and blending. I tried 4 times with both my husbands credit card and my own. It did not let us purchase , it said error try again , or your credit card declined… Which it is not!!
Please look into this, there may be a glitch.
I love Kris and I want the book, but this is frustrating
    Thank u

  59. Linda Cowperthwaite says:

LOVE all of your recipes… when watching you whack into the avocado pit – it reminded me that my friend’s daughter did that and sliced open her hand (fainting and stiches included)! So, please be careful and consider placing that half of the avocado on your board, cushioned and steady with a clean dishtowel underneath so you can whack away without the danger 🙂

  60. Brittany says:

I know this isn’t a question you get asked a lot, but what are some ingredients besides avocado I can put into my shakes to add calories? I fear I am a little under-weight because I don’t usually have much of an appetite and don’t like eating big, heavy meals. I eat mostly veggies and I juice. I also drink a serving of Plant Fusion protein power mixed with Flax milk every day. But I seem to keep losing weight because the little I do eat has so few calories. Thanks.

    • Kris Carr says:

Hey Brittany! Great question. I use plant-based protein powder (too) I also use almond butter or coconut butter. You can also use coconut meat. Hemp powder is helpful as well. I have a tendency to lose weight when not careful — and I don’t have a lot to lose! Therefore I have two smoothies per day. It really helps. x

      • Kerri says:

Can you please recommend a good plant-based protein powder that doesn’t have sweeteners or artificial ingredients? Thanks!

    • Marie says:

Thanks so much for asking this question. I never have as I’ve felt almost bad about doing so since so much these days is focused on losing weight. Glad to hear both you and Kris share my struggle to keep weight on.

  61. Judy says:

Thank you for this great blog and the video. I already ordered the Green Smoothie e book last year and downloaded it. One question, is it still the same book or a new version?
    Have a great green day!
    Judy

    • Corinne Bowen says:

      Hi Judy,

We’re so happy you’ve enjoyed the e-guide! And yes, this is the same version that you have.

  62. ariane says:

    hey and thanks (as always)!
weird question: is it possible to get it wrong?? that would calm me down 😉
i have a super budget blender (living solution) that i’m happy with apart from the plastic smell during the blend. maybe it’s just because it’s new…
i’m not sure why so many people recommend chia soaked in water and then add nut milk. why not just soak it in the milk?
also would you count spirulina as a veggie?
thank you for adding perk and number to my days
my lil heart is beating for you,
    Ariane

  63. Phyllis says:

    Hi Kris,
Yep, look at me, like we’re old buddies. LOL I was at the Writer’s Workshop in NY. You were great as usual. You sat in front of me and I was absolutely gushing with pleasure – I am an absolute fan of yours.

I saw you movie years ago and you hooked me up when you went to the raw retreat for two weeks and when those little cells danced at the end of two weeks, bam, I was hooked and have followed you since which is why I was gushing.

Anywhoo, just wanted to say I purchased your Crazy Sexy Juices & Succulent Smoothies e-guide (I have the other books also, one regular and one Kindle (which I will never do again, I need the turning pages, drop the sauce on the book find of girl! And printing the page out from Kindle and slobbering all over, just not the same). I know, get on with the point, I love the recipes for the green drinks! I have many green drink recipes but yours I actually will use again and again and again.

Thank you for doing what you do for all of us.

    Hug Often, Love Always
    Phyllis

  64. Robyn says:

    What timing!

My smoothie this morning that the daughter stole the last 1/3 of:

    Water
Frozen fruit (strawberry, mango, pineapple and peach)
A bit of really ripe frozen banana
    Lots of spinach
    Juice of half a lime
    1 tbsp flax meal

    So delicious!

I have not tried a cucumber in my smoothie, but I will tomorrow.

For those on a budget, I highly recommend getting a Nutribullet. It’s like a powerful little mini blender. You can get one at Bed Bath and Beyond for about $100 – use one of the 20% off coupons they always have and it’s $80.

I’ve been using mine for 6 months now and love it. It doesn’t blend everything into liquid as thei infomercials would have you believe – but it does a pretty good job.

      I agree, Brianne!
Hubby and I are saving-up for a perofmrnace blender (Vitamix, Blendtec, etc.) but, in the meantime, we bought a Nutribullet at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $80 with the 20% off coupon, just like you said. And we LOVE it!!
It does a MUCH better job than our blender, which we *thought* was great (it’s high speed, just not one of the high-performance ones mentioned above). But, there’s no comparison. That Nutribullet does a MUCH better job, LOVE it.
The only limitation is quantity. It’s perfect for making a smoothie for one person (and, btw, we ALWAYS use the larger container!) but if we’re making smoothies for both of us at the same time (weekends), we have to make them separately.
But I also use it to make cashew cream for coffee on the weekends, nut-rather-than-oil-based salad dressings. It’s perfect for any kind of small-enough blender needs. Great product. I know, I sound like a commercial, lol.

Love your opening music and unicorn. Makes me smile !

  67. Getting a Vitamix is on top of my list! I’m IN LOVE with a smoothy Crudessence (a raw food restaurant in Montreal) makes with spinach… it’s heavenly. So crucial to have a good blender for green smoothies though…

    Love this, thank you!!

Great post Kris, keep bringin’ the goodness, love you long time.

My favourite breakky smoothie is: frozen banana, cinnamon, cacao, coconut butter, chia seeds that have been left to plump up in some filtered water for 10 minutes, spirulina, a a huge handful of baby spinach and icy cold almond milk. Filling, delish and green as the hulk baby!

Hi. I just paid for the smoothies e-guide through paypal, but nothing is happening. I’m looking forward to trying the smoothies. Love your other books. Thanks.

I grew cucumbers this year and had so many I couldn’t possibly eat them all so I am experimenting with freezing them. I have found them to be excellent in my smoothies. Do you ever freeze your cucumbers? Also, I discovered they are very hard to break into pieces after frozen so my next batch I cut into pieces. Will have to see how long they last in the freezer. I’m thinking it will be like freezing bananas.

My solid green smoothie from 2012:
      5 med leaves of romaine
2 large leaves of kale (or a handful of chopped kale)
1 small fuji apple (or half a huge one)
1 small handful of alfalfa sprouts
      4-5 shelled walnut halves
      6-10 raw almonds
      1 teaspoon agave
      Enough coconut water to blend
Optl: 1 tbsp flaxseed meal+ 1 tsp chia seeds

      🙂

  72. Hi Kris,

What blender (Brand and model) are you using in this video? Thanks!

    Melissa
